Indexing in dtSearch and Data Grid

Be sure to make note of how commonly searched for strings appear in indexes such as dtSearch and Data Grid in Relativity.

If you are running a search for a currency figure such as '$9,000' it will appear in a dtSearch index as:

9

000

whereas a Data Grid search will have it as:

9,000

- [Data Grid search doesn’t index special characters, with the exception of comma and period only when they are surrounded by text.]

An email address such frank@yahoo.com would be indexed in dtSearch as:

frank

yahoo

com

. . . but in Data Grid as:

frank

yahoo.com

Lock Down Layout

You can use object rules in Relativity lock down produced documents and prevent users from selecting coding layout.

Follow these steps.

1. Create a new layout for the document object.

2. Create a single choice field . . .

3. . . .and then make just one choice for that field.

4. Now add a rule to the Document object with these settings.

5. When a mass edit is then performed performed to enter the choice 'Yes' on the new field that you have created. Now for the produced document only the read only layout will appear.

Using NotePad ++ to Detect Text File Encoding

You can detect the encoding a text file in NotePad ++ by looking on the bottom right, as shown in the red box in the screen grab below.

The manual for Relativity Desktop Client, the software that Relativity uses to import and export meta and documents, states that, "Relativity does not support Unicode .opt files for image imports. When you have a Unicode .opt file, you must resave this file in ANSI/Western European encoding." So ANSI , the American National Standards Institute, ASCII encoding is referred to by KCura as Western European text. If you have an image load file in UTF-8 unicode or something else you need to convert it.
