Don't miss how easy it is to update hyperlinks in a Word document. If you have hyperlinks in a document for which the network folder path needs to be updated, follow these steps:

  1. Press ALT + F9 to display the XE codes in the document. These will show each of the hyperlinks in the document.

  2. Simply Find and Replace the part of the folder path that needs to be updated. Note the path will have double backslashes.

3. Press CTRL + A to select the entire document, and then press F9 again. This step is necessary to update the links in the document.

Many attorneys will have had trouble copying redlined text generated with document comparison software from a Word document into an Outlook email message. Here's how you can do it.

  1. In Word, under File . . . Options . . . Customize Ribbon, confirm that the Developer tab is checked off.

  2. On the Developer tab, click on 'Design Mode'.

  3. Select the text that you want to paste into an email message.

  4. On the Developer tab, use the option to group the selected text.

  5. Select the text again, and then right click and click 'Copy'.

  6. Paste the text into a new HTML formatted email and it will be shown with track changes.

See these steps demonstrated in this gif:

In MS Word you can sometimes recover files that were closed without being saved by following these steps:

1. In Word, go to File . . . Options, and then click on the 'Save' pane.

2. Note the path listed in the AutoRecover file location box.

3. At this location you should find some .asd files. These can be opened while they are in this location to recover lost content.
