In MS Word you can sometimes recover files that were closed without being saved by following these steps:
1. In Word, go to File . . . Options, and then click on the 'Save' pane.
2. Note the path listed in the AutoRecover file location box.
3. At this location you should find some .asd files. These can be opened while they are in this location to recover lost content.
