Kerning is the term used to describe the space between characters in a document. In MS Word, in the Font dialog box, on the 'Advanced' tab, the spacing between characters can be adjusted.

Setting the 'Spacing' to 'Normal' will enter standard spacing between letters. 'Expanded' will increase the spacing between characters, with a higher point size increasing the spacing. 'Condensed' will narrow the spacing with a higher point size bringing the characters closer together.

It is not uncommon to come across a very nettlesome problem in MS Word where an extra paragraph break is added to the end of a footnote. Using the delete key or backspace will not remove it.

In order to get rid of this extra line and remove the unnecessary space on a page limited brief, follow these steps:

1. Go to View . . . Draft.

2. On the References tab, click ‘Show Notes’

3. In the Footnotes pane that opens at the bottom, select ‘Footnotes Continuation Separator’.

4. Select all, and delete the content which is present. Then change the font size to 1.

5. Then select ‘Footnote Continuation Notice’ and again delete the content and change the font size to 1.

The extra line will be removed.

Adding a paragraph break on the page after the footnote, or simply saving the content to a new document may also solve this problem.

If you're tasked with creating a calendar in Word to track case deadlines or deposition dates, be sure not to miss that Microsoft has templates available which can generate the range of months that you need. Anyone with an Office 365 account can download the calendar templates available here: https://templates.office.com/

A calendar template for Word such as this version, will add a new tab on the ribbon named, 'Calendar'. You can Select the month and year you need to track deadlines for.

There are a variety of different styles available for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Some template drafts already include a complete calendar for the current year, and others let you specify the date range you need. This calendar template for Excel will let you input any begin date, and then create calendar pages for the 11 subsequent months on separate worksheets.
