New York State Courts Want Hyperlinks!

On September 29, 2020, the Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York State issued an order, requiring all filings with the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court which have cites to filings in New York State courts to have hyperlinks to those filings on New York State Courts Electronic Filing System (NYSCEF). [Nearly all filings in courts of original jurisdiction in New York State are freely available online]. The order also states the following:

1. The linked to court filings do not become part of the record.

2. The standard citation format should still be used for an authority if even a link to caselaw or statute is provided.

3. Courts may require parties to link to each cited authority, and even if they are not so required, they are encouraged to do so anyway.

4. The previous requirement that briefs contain bookmarks for each of their sections remains in place.
