UPDATE: How many files in a GB?


Back on September 1, 2015, I posted on John Tredinnick's research into the average number of documents in a GB. At that time, Catalyst's resident electronic discovery expert was finding an average of about 3500 - 4500 files per GB.

In the intervening months Catalyst has been able to analyze ever larger data sets and has tracked the per GB counts on a monthly basis. This chart posted to the Catalyst blog shows a clear trend:

Over the past year the average rate has dropped well below 3000 files per GB, and the figure has been halved since the beginning of 2014.
