Reset the delimiters used with Excel


When you save a worksheet from Excel it will automatically use commas for a delimited file - a comma separated value (.csv) file. Windows provides a way to reset this default setting. Go to Start . . . Control Panel. Click on the item, Region and Language. At the bottom right click on 'Additional Settings'.

On the numbers tab you'll see that you that there is an option to set the List Separator.

Changing this value to another delimiter such as a tilde or pipe will cause your .csv files to be exported differently:

However be aware that after you've done this when entering formulas in Excel you will now need to replace commas with the new value:
