Check out the ratings of virus protection software at https://www.virusbulletin.com/testing/results/latest/vb100-antimalware . Virus Bulletin evaluates how well programs do at protecting your computer against both known threats, and unknown threats - new malware or viruses that have not already been identified as problems.

Hence Virus Bulletin assigns each program a RAP score - reactive and proactive. It also provides ratings showing how stable the programs are, and by what percentage they increase the amount of time needed to complete common task on your computer.
