The Ringtail document review platform includes some useful features which distinguish it from Relativity and other competitors in the document review game.

The quick search tool, will easily allow you to run a search through the searchable text of all documents, and all metadata fields and coded fields.

The review dashboard, which an admin can give users access to, includes an estimate of how long it will take to complete a document review.

Ringtail's concept cloud will generate a word map for documents in a case. It can be narrowed to include particular sets of documents, and the more common terms can be excluded.

Clicking on any of the terms will pull up a list of the documents with those terms.

File Types Manager is a another great free utility from Nirsoft. It can be used to generate a list of all of the file types on your computer. See the download here. Simply run the executable file and a list will automatically be created.

When searching for PII (personally identifiable information) in a set of documents to be produced, it may be a good idea to run a search tailored to find Standard Form 86. This form is used to collect background information on employees considered for positions which concern national security. Government contractors and members of the armed forces may be asked to complete this form as well. The form will include information about an individual's past employers and residences. An example of the form can be found here.

Applicants have to enter their social security number at the bottom of each page of the form.

The form may include information about a person's psychological well being; travel outside the United States; and criminal history.

The United Office of Personnel Management maintains a website, e-QIP (electronic questionnaire for investigations processing) to facilitate the collection of information for SF-86.
