NTFS Info

NTFS Info

June 25, 2017

You can use the free applet, NTFS Info, from Windows Sysinternals to find out the size of the master file table on your hard drive.     Download it here:  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897424.aspx

It will download in a zip file and it contains executable files for both Windows 32 bit and Windows 64 bit systems.   The files must be run from PowerShell.    Open PowerShell as an admin (see last night's tip) and type in the path to the file followed by a drive letter and colon.

You'll get a lot of useful information including the total number of clusters and sectors, the bytes in each sector and cluster, in addition to the MFT size.
