Windows Command Sort to sort on specified character in text file

If you want to sort all of the data in a text on a specified character number from the beginning of each line, use the command SORT in this format:

 

sort /+3 sort2.txt >list.txt

 

So if we begin with a file like this:

 . . . and then we enter the command, whether to give the results in command prompt or write them to a text file . . . 

 

 

We get the lines sorted alphabetically by the third character on each line:
